Senior University at Newman - Summer 2013

Are you looking for something different to do this summer 2013?  Maybe you’re searching for an opportunity to learn something new or take a class.  If so, Senior University at Newman is just for you.  Geared toward adults 55 and older who are active, engaged and interested in expanding their knowledge on a variety of subjects.   This new and exciting workshop series, scheduled for June 11th through June 13th is a great way to learn new skills, identify new-found interests, participate in lifelong learning and be a part of Newman University campus life.  

This educational event sponsored by Newman University, the School of Social Work at Newman University and the Aging and Wellness Coalition of Sedgwick County is the first of its kind in Wichita.  This Senior University is modeled after other well-known Senior Universities across the nation including programs  at University of Kansas and University of San Diego where hundreds of seniors participate in on campus, higher level learning.  This three day workshop series will offer class options that are an eclectic mix of social, educational and cultural programming.  Classes include Egyptology, Creating Community Change, Oil Fracking, Animals and their Environments, Today’s Technology, Medical Advances, Wine Tasting and much more.   The classes will be taught by local professors of Wichita Universities, Ph.D. and Master level presenters, or local experts in their field.  This series will interest all levels of learners, offering an opportunity for higher education at a reasonable cost.  The registration cost of $65 will register Senior University students for classes beginning June 11th through June 13th including lunch each day and closing reception the afternoon of June 13th. Save $5 on the Early Bird discount for registrations received by May 1st.  Registration forms can be found at www.cpaaa.org or accessed by calling Sue at 316-942-4291 ext. 2183 or Debbie at 316-264-4066 ext. 221.   Registration information will be available in February 2013.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Is parking free?  Parking is free during Senior University.  You may park anywhere on campus in a designated parking space.  Volunteers will be available during Senior University for anyone needing directions.

Where do I go to check-in when I arrive on June 11th?  Check-in will take place at the Dugan Conference Center in the Dugan Library.  Volunteers will be outside this location prior to check in to direct attendees and to answer any questions.  Upon your arrival you will receive a packet which will include your class schedule and other helpful information.

Where will classes be offered?  Classes will take place in Eck Hall.  Rooms will be listed on your class schedule.
